CSEG17SC Planning Land 3-D Seismic Surveys


This course is designed to meet the needs of any geophysicist involved in 3D operations, including the interpretive geophysicist in the oil company operating the 3D seismic survey, seismic processors, field QC personnel, and contractors. The course outlines rules of thumb and guidelines for choosing parameters, practical field and processing considerations as well as detailed design concepts.

Emphasis will be on topics of most interest to the participants. The OMNI 3D® Workshop software package by GEDCO will be utilized during the course to demonstrate the concepts of the learned material. Students are encouraged to bring problems to the class in order to make the exercises more meaningful.

Andreas Cordsen, M.Sc., P. Geoph.

While working for oil companies and as a consultant, Andreas Cordsen worked on the definition and development of numerous pools in Canada and internationally. He founded GEDCO with John W. Peirce in 1990 to provide the exploration industry with a full range of geophysical services, esp. developing expertise in the area of 3D design. In 2000, GEDCO expanded further by purchasing Seismic Image Software Ltd. The two software products, OMNI 3D® and VISTA®, enjoy significant market shares worldwide with an ever increasing customer base in over 50 countries. Today, Andreas is the President & CEO of GEDCO. He has co-authored the SEG publication “Planning Land 3-D Seismic Surveys”.
