A valuable program for teachers from across Canada! The workshop on Saturday, May 8 will provide 30 high school teachers with twelve lesson plans and other classroom resources that will empower them to integrate Earth science topics into the core subjects of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. The lesson plans will be developed by Stella Heenan, an educator who is also a geophysicist, through funding provided to the EdGEO Teacher Workshop Program by the Canadian Geological Foundation. The workshop will be delivered by Stella and several other Earth Science professionals who have extensive experience working with teachers. The most likely venue for the workshop is the GSC Calgary office.
An optional field trip to the Royal Tyrrell Museum will take place on Sunday May 9. The program, led by Tyrell staff, will include a tour of the museum (including behind-the-scenes), hands-on activities, and a short walk through the adjacent Badlands. Teachers will also be provided with en route commentary on the geology of the landscape between Calgary and Drumheller.
