As part of our ongoing commitment to community, we will be holding our seventh annual charity event at the GeoCanada 2010 convention in May 2010. To date, we have raised over $77,000 with our silent and live auctions.
This year we are once again proud to support Light Up The World (LUTW) with the proceeds of the auction. Founded in Calgary in 1999, LUTW is an international development organization dedicated to providing renewable energy and innovative lighting solutions to communities in need in the developing world. Their goal is to bring affordable, safe, healthy, efficient and environmentally responsible solutions to the almost 2 billion people worldwide that do not have access to electricity.
Since its inception, LUTW has facilitated the installation of 25,000 lights that have illuminated more than 300,000 lives in 51 countries. LUTW projects have brought tangible social, environmental and economic gains to communities by enhancing their health and safety, fostering local education, helping to develop an economic infrastructure, and protecting the physical environment by reducing the amount of carbon based fuels used for lighting.
